Before
* Im not a huge fan of groundcover Juniper, especially with Phormopsis Blight and couldnt wait to rip it all out!

Sangria Encore Azaleas, Pocomoke ( dwarf ) Crape Myrtles, Variegated Liriope and everblooming Kalimiris ( Japanese ) Asters add an explosion of multi-season color to the existing Garnet Japanese Maple, Blue Holly Hedge and Globe Blue Spruce that were pruned and saved on this 1985 built home makeover. Along the driveway, I used Globe Cryptomeria as a more exotic looking replacement for a Spider Mite infested Birds Nest Spruce as well as White Drift Roses to show off the red Jap Maple.

Wish I took some before pics. Originally there was nothing but mud and roots under the large Blue Spruce that was limbed up and became the focal point in this landscape. Was lucky to find some outstanding Sikes Dwarf Oakleaf Hydrangeas from Country Springs Nursery in Clarksville, MD which will dominate this landscape area with multi season interest. Difficult to see in the pics, the Ferns under the Spruce are Dixie Woodferns ( highly vigorous and drought tolerant but will definately be shorter than their usual 4 feet due to tree root competition ) and the perennials installed around the summer flowering Oakleaf Hydrangeas are Royal Heritage Helleboriss for spring bloom. Siberian Carpet Cypresss were also used in both the Spruce bed and the driveway bed. The driveway bed also contains Prostrate Japanese Plum Yews for an easy to grow exotic effect which is deer resistant. Blue Sedge was also used as a Blue Fescue substitute in the partially shaded driveway bed and to create a stunning effect with the Burgundy Loropetalum ( Fringe Hazel ) along the white wall to the right of the garage.
